Zhetybay by Robert Collinson
An extremely powerful story of a young “Drilling Base Manager” style figure who certainly does not shy away from internal conflict... in fact, this Scot, Matt Duncan is ably assisted (at times) to work his way around the corrupt systems that are so prevalent throughout Kazakstan... in fact, at times - he reverses this process to make good use of the same corruption to his advantage as you will read.
The incidents in the story are believable, wholly absorbing, and entertaining to a point of wanting more.... and if this is the first novel by Robert, then he merits applause as he seems to have captured complete control of the story and style- while also allowing scope for continuity...
A very entertaining and highly recommended read!
